As the snow falls and the wind blows don't forget our monthly Guild meeting Feb.13, 2014 from 10am until 3pm. This month our meeting will feature Christine Muir and Viking knitting. From Joan McCullochOctober 7, 2014 will be the 25th year since Spin In started. Who would have thought in 1989 we would still be meeting annually to celebrate spinning, friendship and the sharing of information. At our last meeting we discussed ways to make this a special day. We discussed giving everyone a gift but the thought of providing 75-100 people with something was overwhelming. It was decided that in addition to our regular door prizes, we would have 25 fibre related door prizes. These could be books, magazines, fibre, Christmas ornaments. If you have something, please bring it to a meeting and Joan McCulloch will assemble the prizes over the next months. We do not want to leave everything until fall.OHS eblastOntario Handweavers and SpinnersThe Spin at Warp Speed Electronic NewsletterJanuary, 2014MembershipsThank you to everyone who has renewed their membership before the beginning of this year. Cost: $230.00Network drafting is a method of designing curvilinear threadings for multishaft looms. The weave design on the fabric shows more curvature and breaks the rigidity of the vertical/horizontal lines that weaves usually have. Two methods of designing will be used: digitizing and telescoping. Using a freehand curve, you will learn to create a proper network draft by using various matrices called initials, and then develop a tie-up and a treadling plan. Please go to this link for more information about the following courses: http://torontoweavingschool.blogspot. ca/2014/01/spring-and-summer- weaving-workshops.html LINEN WORKSHOP, $280 ($200 if you register before February 14!), plus materials $45 Riverdale Farm, Toronto, Saturday March 29 - Monday March 31 2014 9am to 4pm. We propose supporting our members by developing a set of resources and activities that they could use when they are sharing their skills with young people (in schools, 4H clubs, Guides, Scouts etc) Many of our members have ideas they have already used successfully; by offering an opportunity to share these ideas with each other, we assist each other, and also benefit children and youth throughout Ontario. An additional feature of the resource activities would be to relate the activities to the Ontario Curriculum, in various subject areas and at various grade levels, especially Social Studies, Science and Technology, Visual Arts and Family Studies. This would assist teachers in their planning. In order to make this idea a reality, we need to form a committee of interested members who are willing to develop the resources. While they need not be teachers, it would be helpful to have some members who have experience teaching in Ontario schools, who are familiar with the curriculum. We especially need someone to chair the committee. While funds (as usual!) are scarce, we have had a generous donation to help get this project started. If you are interested in being a part of this project, would you please email me as soon as possible.
